FAQs about the Shipify Digital Logistics Marketplace

Please reach us at Info@shipifydlmp.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A: Shipify DLMP is a unified, digital logistics marketplace designed to connect cargo-owners (traders, exporters/importers), logistics service providers (e.g. transporters, Consolidators, forwarders, warehouses, clearing/forwarding agents, cold-chain, CFS, shipping lines), insurers, and finance partners, into a single end-to-end value chain.

A: It solves fragmentation, inefficiency, lack of transparency, and risk in African cargo logistics, issues like manual paperwork, unverified providers, unclear cargo tracking, long lead times, poor coordination across transport, warehousing, customs, insurance, and financing. Shipify DLMP digitises and standardises the workflow so cargo moves smoothly from origin to destination, with visibility, compliance, and optional embedded trade financing.

A:

  • Traders / exporters / importers / manufacturers / SMEs who need reliable logistics across Africa.
  • Logistics providers (transporters, freight-forwarders, warehouses, shipping agents, cold-chain providers, CFS) seeking verified demand and digital booking.
  • Finance and insurance partners offering trade finance or cargo insurance tied to documented cargo lifecycles.
  • Regulators or customs-related agencies requiring digital cargo tracking, documentation and corridor intelligence

A: Typical workflow:

  1. Registered Trader creates a “Bid Request / Bids Card” with details (origin, destination, weight, type, value, required services).
  2. Shipify DLMP matches request to verified service providers.
  3. Providers submit quotes; trader selects preferred provider and executes the service contract securely within the platform.
  4. Service provider executes the service e.g. transport / Consolidation / forwarding / warehousing / clearance.
  5. Cargo is tracked in real-time; documentation (UCR, bill of lading, customs docs, delivery notes) is generated/documented digitally.
  6. Payment settlement or escrow, optionally with trade-finance backing; insurance and risk mitigation applied, if required.
  7. Delivery completion, Transfer Deed, digital proof, cargo closure, feedback/rating.

A: More than transport. Shipify DLMP covers full-lifecycle logistics: freight-forwarding, customs-clearance, warehousing/CFS, cold-chain (where applicable), consolidation, cargo tracking, documentation, insurance, and, importantly, trade finance and corridor-intelligence services.

Conceptualized and built in Kenya, Shipify DLMP will initially be rolled out in East Africa and Pan-African corridors (as per rollout roadmap). As the platform scales, more regions will be onboarded.

A: Unified Bids Card, Seller-marketplace, quote-comparison, real-time tracking, digital documentation, escrow/payment settlement, provider vetting & ratings, optional trade finance & insurance integration, corridor-intelligence dashboards.

A: All logistics providers on DLMP undergo verification and vetting before onboarding. The platform uses standardised documentation and tracking to ensure transparency. For high-value cargo, trade-finance and insurance options serve as additional safeguards.

A: DLMP operates on a transparent fee/commission model (or subscription + commission, depending on service type). Actual costs vary by corridor, cargo type, distance, services used (e.g. transport-only vs transport + customs + warehousing + finance). Quote comparison lets the trader see cost breakdown before committing.

A: Once a provider is selected and work starts, payments are handled within the Shipify DLMP platform, either directly or through escrow, in line with the agreed terms and any trade-finance or insurance arrangements.

A: Yes, Shipify DLMP is designed to integrate with finance & insurance partners to offer embedded trade-finance and cargo insurance. That makes the platform attractive to SMEs requiring working-capital, and to institutional cargo owners needing risk protection.

B. About Shipify Ltd (the company behind Shipify DLMP)

A: Shipify Ltd is the technology company established to build, host and operate the Shipify DLMP platform across Africa. It serves as the institutional backbone for DLMP operations.

A: Shipify Ltd is primarily the platform operator, it does not directly own transport fleets or warehouses. Logistics execution is carried out by verified third-party service providers, which the platform connects and manages.

A: Shipify commits to standard compliance best practices, data protection, proper documentation, and transparent provider vetting. The platform’s documentary records, digital workflows, escrow/payment mechanisms, and audit trails provide accountability and governance for regulators, financiers, and clients. Additional compliance with applicable regional trade, customs and regulatory frameworks will be maintained.

C. For Users / Logistics Providers / Finance Partners

A: By submitting an application via “Become a Provider” link. Provider undergoes verification, including credentials, insurance (if applicable), compliance, track record, and capacity check. Once approved, the provider appears in the marketplace and is eligible for job requests.

A: Trader registers via “Get Services” Link. Subsequently after approval, trader can enter cargo details on bids card, receives matched provider quotes, and selects provider for execution.

A: Yes, Shipify DLMP supports integrations with banks, trade-finance institutions, insurers for cargo insurance or financing. Contact us via “info@shipifydlmp.com” to explore collaboration.

A: Shipify DLMP supports freight-forwarding and customs-clearance workflows via verified forwarders/customs-agents in the network. Digital documentation and standardised processes help streamline cross-border shipping.

A: For such specialized cargo, only verified cold-chain providers or hazardous-cargo-certified providers are allowed to bid. The Cargo Bids Card must specify cargo type, requirements, and compliance documentation must be provided before booking.

A: Shipify DLMP provides standardised documentation and supports dispute-resolution workflow. Providers and traders can escalate issues via the platform; insurance or escrow mechanisms help protect both parties.

D. For Investors / Partners / Regulators

A: Unlike a courier or single-carrier model, the Shipify DLMP is a digital marketplace and orchestration layer. It connects and coordinates multiple logistics providers across the entire value chain, e.g. transporters, consolidators, freight forwarders, warehouses, CFS operators, cold-chain specialists, clearing agents, insurers, and finance partners, all through a unified, end-to-end digital workflow.

This integrated approach eliminates fragmentation, increases visibility, improves coordination, and unlocks economies of scale, making cargo movement across Africa more predictable, efficient, and secure.

Shipify DLMP also works closely with governments and trade-facilitation agencies to complement national Single Window Systems, enabling seamless cross-border trade, standardised documentation, real-time tracking, and better compliance across regional corridors.

A: Yes, Shipify DLMP is designed from ground up as a pan-African, multi-corridor logistics infrastructure. As more providers, finance partners, and traders join, network effects improve service coverage, competitive pricing, and reliability.

A: Verified provider onboarding, digital documentation, tracking, escrow/payment settlement, audit trail, optional insurance, and compliance with applicable trade regulations create a transparent, auditable, and trustworthy logistics infrastructure.

A: Through commission on each cargo transaction, subscription or membership fees for providers/traders (as appropriate), and value-added services (e.g. trade-finance facilitation, corridor-intelligence reports, premium tracking/insurance, platform adverts).
